A new direction

Originally, I had planned on focusing primarily on school and work when I got out here, and let MMA fall to the wayside. However, just as always, the damn sport pulled my ass back in. The first month here kinda sucked, I get stressed out pretty easy when it comes to money issues, and driving across the country, bringing with me only what I could cram into my little Toyota Corolla (minus room for Rebecca and Baby Girl haha) didn’t help much. After buying a new bed, computer, and pretty much everything else besides clothes, my damn student loan was already making my heart hurt haha. So when an offer for a fight came, I had no other option.

Hadn’t trained in 3 months, so I figured I better at least tryand train a bit before the fight. I ended up getting conencted with a solid gym – Island MMA. They have a sweet coach, who is an active pro fighter, and a bunch of really solid fighters under him. The training was great, all 3 times I went haha. But it’s just not really my thing anymore. I figured why bother at this point, let’s just go out there and have fun, see what I can do eh.

Shit actually turned out pretty good haha. I missed weight by a couple pounds, but that’s my own damn fault, didn’t start cutting until 3 days prior to weigh ins, and had about 25lbs to go haha. Not bad for being in a rush if ya ask me. And surprisingly enough I won the fight! hahaha. Not only that, but it was even considered the fight of the night, hilarious I know. I’m just so bloody amazing hahaha.

But enough about that crap, let’s get back on track here! A new direction. Like how it takes me 3 paragraphs to actually get to the point? Jesus! Anyways, I’m going to take my blog in a new direction. Well I’m going to make a half-assed attempt at it anyway. My goal is to use myself as a guinea pig for strength and size training, experimentwith various training principals, methods, and programs, and see what happens. Take my findings from that, toss in a few anecdotes, and post em here. As per usual, I’m of course going to get completely side-tracked, and also come up with a ridiculous supply of idiotic rants and ramblings, all of which I will be happy to share (I hope both my readers enjoy them, haha).

Well here’s hoping this experiment works out, wish me luck!

Been a while…

Wow it’s been forever since I last updated this blog! A lot has happened since.

For starters, I moved across the country. Well I guess it’s not really all the way across, from Ontario to British Columbia. Far enough anyway. Feeling basically trapped back home, same shit day in and day out, with my only real avenue to the outside world being fighting (and I didn’t even really like fighting that much anymore), I felt like I needed a change.

Since I finally realized that my life no longer has to revolve around MMA, I’ve turned to pursuing a career in the Fitness industry. Ideally I’d like to open my own gym, nothing huge, just a nice place for athletes to get freak strong at. But for now, I’m focusing on setting the ground work. I moved to BC for Camosun College’s Sport Performance program. Unfortunately though, that program was brand new and got postponed about a month before I made the move. But I know myself all too well, if I didn’t get my ass out here now, this shit was very unlikely going to happen haha. So I made the switch over to Sport Management, figuring it might prove itself useful in my later days when I actually might have to manage something.

Kinda didn’t work out as I hoped. While there are a few classes worth while, for the most part the program is filled with useless crap I would never have any use for. After the initial stress of uprooting and moving across the damn country, abandoning all my comforts, and amassing a nice student loan in record time (shit adds up quick doesn’t it – fuck!), I’ve started to figure shit out. This years going to be my weening process – get my ass back into school mode. Nothing is for sure, but my fingers are remaining crossed that the Sport Performance program starts next year.

Until then, I got some plans to keep me busy. I’ve begun researching into Charles Poliquin’s stuff – the guy’s a god damn genius! I picked up one of his supplements, a couple of his books, and am well on my way. I have a couple courses I plan on taking once the second term starts (and I’m not quite as poor). 2 of which are a Sports Conditioning Specialist program, and a Performance Enhancement Specialist program. Both look pretty sick, and I’m pumped to have at em!

Luckily I found myself a job as a trainer relatively quick – probably because every gym in the area heard how amazing I was and that I was coming out here. I was surprised they didn’t post want adsfor me on the front page of the paper. haha. But seriously. It’s a sweet gig, a small private training studio, with a solid group of people.  Looking forward to getting fully settled in there.
