Personal Training

Aside from my own training, another passion of mine comes by way of training others. I first began working as a personal trainer in early 2007. Since then, I have had the experience of working in few different industry settings (including your average commercial gym, semi-private gym, crossfit facility, and in-home training), and with a variety of different people (from the long-time couch potato to the upper level amateur athlete, and from the small kid getting bullying in the school yard all the way up to the grandparents that just want to be able to keep up with their grand-kids).
One thing for sure, I am not your average trainer. Unfortunately, there currently are not much standards or regulation in the way of Personal Training. Most trainers are fresh off their weekend certification course, eager to blow out some poor clients back or knees with the latest muscle magazine “killer workout” and their lack-luster coaching skills. It’s sad, but true. Experience in the personal training business is a funny thing. I myself have met many trainers that have been working in the field for longer than I, yet I wouldn’t let them near one of my clients, and can barely even sustain an intelligent conversation with them on the subject of something as crucial to the industry as proper strength development, or real nutrition.
My thirst for complete understanding of how to manipulate the human body drives my never ending quest for knowledge. I’m always halfway into an interesting book, elbow deep in a new article, finishing off some continuing education credits, or attending a seminar/certification somewhere. Using myself as a guinea pig, I can sift through what works and what doesn’t, and be better able at using these techniques and ideas with my clients.
